Where do I start?
Before the age of 15, I had lived in 9 homes.
We moved. A lot.
Well, to be honest some of them I don't even remember, but I'll never forget that nervous anticipation of having to start all over in a new place.
Now at the age of 34, I've moved more times than I care to count.
In chronological order: Vermont, Indiana, Kentucky, Singapore, New York, Belgium, Alabama, South Carolina, Houston, Ft. Worth, Dallas, San Francisco, Dallas, San Francisco (sound repetitive yet), Washington DC, Houston, Dallas.
I was the new kid who dreaded the first day of lunch in the cafeteria during elementary school, middle school and high school.
Each time I moved, I lost track of people.
I blame the fact that the internet, email and Facebook hadn't been invented yet.
Damn Al Gore. Wish he'd thought of inventing the world wide web years prior.
Here's a tip of the iceberg of folks I lost touch with over the years and would be thrilled if I could stalk Facebook and find them after all these years.
YUKO K.
[From Japan and moved to Belgium when I lived there. She didn't speak a lick of English. I'd like to pretend I taught her her first English words. We became fast friends and for whatever reason, there were no language barriers to our friendship.]
MRS. JABOUR
[Favorite teacher of all time - way better than that witchy calc teacher from my senior year in high school. Taught the 5th grade. I was her pet. We bonded and kept in touch when I moved away. We used to write letters - like the old fashioned kind with a piece of paper and a pen.]
COLLEGE BOYFRIEND
[I just want to forgive him for all the haunting things we experienced together. Not exactly a relationship built on solid bedrock, but one I learned a lot from. Started off being such a warm, caring and funny guy. Funny how time together slowly unvieled things you only think happen to others.]
I'm AmericanBridget and while I spent way too much time on Facebook, it's great to stalk people I don't care to speak with.

WHAT college boyfriend??? : )
ReplyDeleteI think you should see if you could find any of these people..especially your teacher. I'm sure she'd be thrilled to hear that you still think of her!
ReplyDeleteJen - college boyfriend was Russ. Not exactly a stand-up kinda guy at the time we were in college. I was pretty quiet about our real relationship...but I think he turned his life around.
